Technology integration goes green! Find activities, lessons, and projects that integrate environmental awareness, technology, literacy, and content standards. Each activity offers suggestions for implementation at K-2, 2-5 and 6-12 grade levels, as well as adaptations for use in different content areas.

Reduce: Paper Monitor Activity

for Grades K-2

How is paper made? How can we conserve paper?

  • Research how paper is made at websites such as Fun Facts, Let’s Make Paper and video at paperrecycles.org. Learn how to make paper using this guide and video. (Internet, Online tools / NETS 1, 4)
  • Discuss and list, with students, ways paper is used in the classroom. Monitor its’ usage by graphing 5 of the top ways students have compiled over a two week period. Follow-up with discussion of conservation suggestions from students. (Spreadsheet / NETS 2, 4)
  • Construct posters to post in the classroom from the conservation suggestions. (Drawing / NETS 2)
  • Extend the monitoring and graphing of paper usage at students’ homes. Follow-up with discussion and research on ways to conserve paper use at home. (Spreadsheet, Internet / NETS 1, 2, 4)
  • Develop a class newsletter to share the ideas for paper conservation at school and at home. (Word Processing, Desktop Publishing / NETS 2, 3)

This "Go Green" resource was developed by Buddy for an eco-education initiative, "Green Connections: Learning and Living." This initiative will run from February 1 through Earth Day on April 22, 2009.
