Word Processing Tips for Word©

Download Word Processing Tutorial as an Adobe Acrobat File:

You must have Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer before you can open this file.
Activity Description:
  1. Open Microsoft Word. If there is not a shortcut on the desktop, go to Start/Programs/Microsoft Word.
  2. A new document will open.
  3. Type the sentence: The quick red fox jumped over the lazy brown dog.

To change the font, size, color and style of the text

  1. Highlight the sentence.
  2. Under Format select Font. . .
  3. A window will appear like the one below:
Note: There are shortcuts in the toolbar at the top of your screen.

Change all Text

  1. Under Edit choose Select All. This will highlight all of the work that you have done.
  2. Then choose Format / Font. . . to make changes.

To change the alignment of the text

  1. Highlight the sentence. Using the buttons in the toolbar you can center or right justify your text.

Copy and Paste text

  1. Highlight the desired text that you want to copy.
  2. Under Edit choose Copy.
  3. Click on the line where you want the text copied.
  4. Under Edit choose Paste.
  5. Note: You can also use the shortcut buttons on the toolbar to cut, copy, and paste.
  6. To Cut text from one place and move it to another, you use all of the same steps as above except choose Cut where you had chosen Copy.

Spell checker and Thesaurus

  1. Delete everything that you have typed so far (remember: Edit – Select All will highlight everything quickly.)
  2. Type these letters: Then she became angri. (I meant for you type angry wrong!)
  3. Under Tools select Spelling and Grammar. . .
  4. Make sure angri is highlighted in the Suggestions box and click on the Change button.

Viewing your document before printing

  1. Under File select Print Preview (or use the shortcut button in the toolbar.).
  2. If everything looks the way you want it to, you can click on the Print button.
  3. If there are corrections that you want to make, click Close and make the corrections.
