| Activity Description: |
|
- Objective:
- The object of this activity is to create a table
on the computer then fill in the boxes (cells) with
different colors to create a pattern. Your table will
have 8 boxes. A pattern is created when two or more
colors are repeated in a specific order. Example:
red, green, blue, red, green, blue, red, green. .
.
- Open Microsoft Word©. A new
document will appear.
- Click on the Insert Table shortcut
button in the toolbar.

- Create a 1 x 8 table (1 row and 8 columns.) by
clicking and dragging over the squares until you get
the size you want then let go of the mouse button.
- Next you will want to make your cells larger. Under
Table select Table Properties
(If it is not there, drag down to the arrow at the
bottom of the drop-down menu.)
- Click on the Row tab. Click in
the small white box where it says Specify
Height. Then after Specify Height:
change the number to 1” (1
inch).
- Now you need to create your pattern. (A pattern
is created when two or more colors are repeated in
order. Example: yellow, blue, yellow, blue, yellow,
blue ).
- Click on the first cell that you want to color.
Under Format select Borders
and Shading. When the window appears, click
on the Shading tab. (See picture
on back.)
- Select the color you want here.
- Select the type of patter you want here (Don’t
forget to scroll down to see all of your choices.)
- You only want the first cell to look this way so
make sure that you change the Apply to:
to Cell.

- Before you click OK, make sure
you remember your choices for when you have to repeat
this color / pattern combination.
- Now click in the second cell. Repeat steps 7 through
10 to pick a color and pattern for this cell.
- Continue doing the same with the rest of the cells.
Remember, you will want to create a pattern.
- Once you have your pattern, print your document.
