Ladybug Family Glyphs

Have your family create a collection of ladybugs using a glyph that is custom designed by you. Think about the parts of a ladybug that need to be drawn. Now create a question for each of the attributes using a word processor (antennae, legs, # of dots on left side, right side, color of body, facial expression). For example, questions could be: How many pairs of shoes do you have? Draw that # of dots on the left side. What is your favorite season? Winter- draw-1 dot, Spring- 2 dots, Summer,- 3 dots, Fall- 4 dots. You could also use Yes/No questions. Would you ever hold a ladybug in your hand? Yes= color body red, No= Color Body Pink. The questions could all be based on a certain theme or be totally random, you decide! After you have completed your survey questions for your glyph print them out. Now, using a drawing program, have each family member complete the survey and "draw" their own ladybug based on your glyph. Be sure you have each person make their bug on the same page and label each one with their name- just like a "family portrait." Once everyone has created their own bug, take a look at the whole family. Can you tell who answered the questions the same way? How is your family alike? Different? Compare your ladybugs with each other.
