How Short is the Shortest Day?

December 21st marks the Winter Solstice—the shortest day of the year. Collect some data to see how short the day really is by comparing it to the day before and the day after. On December 20, 21, and 22, record the time when the sun comes up and when the sun goes down. Place your times in a spreadsheet. How many minutes different is sunrise? sunset? As a family do a little research as to what dictates the length of time in a day.
