Measure Hunt
Beat the winter "blah's" by doing this fun family activity... going on a Measure Hunt! Begin in a word processor by brainstorming with your family all of the different measurement lengths for which you could hunt in your home. Type in each item. Examples might include:
- an item that is 8 cm. long
- two items that have a combined length of 26 inches
- two objects, one that is four inches shorter than the other.
Be creative with your list and try to come up with at least ten measurements to find. Finally, print off a list for each family member that can participate. Let each person grab a ruler, a pencil and their measure hunt page to begin the task. Be sure each person records the items measured and the actual measurement was next to the appropriate task. were and what their measurement was next to the appropriate task. When each person is finished discuss your results.
- Who finished first?
- Did anyone use the same item to measure for one of the tasks?
- What was the most unique item measured?
- What was the most difficult measuring task for each participant?..the easiest?
