Rosa Parks Presentation
Fifty years ago this month Rosa Parks became the "Mother of the Civil Rights Movement" when she refused to give up her seat to a white passenger on a Montgomery, Alabama bus. Celebrate her courageous life by honoring her memory with a multimedia presentation you create after learning about her legacy. Your presentation might include the following slides:
- A title slide that includes Name of Presentation, Important Dates, Photograph or Drawing and the Presenters Name
- Her birth
- Her growing up and schooling
- Her Family
- The events of December 1, 1955
- The Boycott
- A slide with the definitions of the following words: Boycott, Discriminate, Desegregation, NAACP, Civil Rights Movement
- Her Honors and Achievements
- Tell why you think her life was so important
Be sure to include a slide that cites the sources of your research. Also add clip art, photographs, and any sounds or movies you might find that would be appropriate and allowable for use.

Delivery Data
What do you think it would be like to be a mail carrier this time of year? Do you think the month of December would be the most difficult? Which day do you think would be the most challenging delivery date in December? To find out the answer to these questions, gather some data based on mail deliveries made to your home. To keep track of your data, create a new database including these fields: date, number of holiday cards, number of advertisements, number of bills, number of miscellaneous mail pieces, and a TOTAL number for each day. Daily check your mail from your mailbox, sort and count each piece and enter the data into your database file. Once you have entered in your data for each day in December, take a look at the results. Sort your data to find:
- Which day had the most overall mail?
- Which day had the second highest mail?
- Which day had the most advertisements?
- Which day had the most holiday cards?
- Which day had the most bills?
- Which of these categories had the highest each day: advertisements, holiday cards or bills?
- Which day had the least amount of total mail? Why do you think that is?
Take the overall mail data and make a bar graph. Does your graph grow like a mountain or are the peak days sporadic? Why do you think that is?

Celebrate Indiana Cake
Happy Birthday to Indiana on December 11th! Recognize this great date in the history of our state by learning about this important time and then celebrate it by drawing a specialized birthday cake. Begin in a drawing program by using an oval for the top and then line drawings for the base. Now add the number of candles on the top. How many years old is the state if the birth of our state was in 1816? You can either draw individual stick candles or use numbers and put flames on the top to look like numbered candles. Decorate the sides of the cake with drawings or clip art of the state symbols including the bird, tree, flower, flag, map, etc. Add some text such as "Happy Birthday Hoosier State!" as well as any other decorations that would be appropriate.
