Signs of Spring Spreadsheet
Spring is literally popping up all around us! What changes are you noticing? Take a walk around your yard, neighborhood, or a nearby park and make a list in a notebook of all the new growth and changes that are occurring right before your eyes. Be sure to look down, around and up! If you have a digital camera it might be fun to snap a few photos as well. Once you have finished your "hunt," go back home and type your items into a spreadsheet, going down column A. Can you sort the list alphabetically? Finally, use your math skills and estimate how you would choose to measure each of the items. Would you use an inch, foot, or yard? In column B type in the appropriate unit of measurement for each item. Now, can you sort by measurement classification? What unit of measurement yielded the most items? Wait a week then go on the same walk. How have things changed? Would you change the classification of measurement for any of the items?
