Percentage Picture
Practice working with percentages by creating this mathematical masterpiece. Begin in a spreadsheet, making 10 rows down and 10 columns across equal width and height. Now fill in each cell with a color, creating a picture. In a separate part of the spreadsheet, create the chart (see below) to figure out what percentage of each color you used in the drawing. Label across row 1- Color, Number, Fraction, and Percent. List down the column the different colors you worked with. Now count the number of cells you used for each color and enter that number. Next, type in the fraction of each color (the number of cells divided by 100) and then create a formula to find out what percentage it is (=the # / 100 * 100). What color did you use the most? the least? Did any percentages match? Extra: At the bottom of the "Number" column, create a formula to calculate the sum- what should it be? (hint: 10 x 10).
